Drawing is the foundation of painting. One kind of drawing benefits painting more than others; it is called value or tonal drawing - using values/tones to define objects rather than lines. Actually, when done with charcoals, the experience is very similar to painting. Such way of drawing could help transition one from drawing to painting seamlessly.
In this two-day workshop, JJ will demonstrate his working process and drawing techniques while drawing from live models. Day 1 will focus on portrait drawings, and Day 2 on figure drawings. Besides doing demos, JJ will circulate the class and work with participants individually, helping each to see values, shapes, and to draw boldly and expressively.
